Position Summary

Our research team is focused on providing high-quality, in-depth and unbiased event driven analysis to top tier hedge funds and institutional investors. We are expanding our effort and are looking for an Analyst to research risk arbitrage and event driven situations. Our focus is primarily European definitive public M&A, over $500m market cap, but we will also cover US and Asia transactions when there is a European angle, such as a European acquirer or key antitrust issues in the region. The Analyst will report to a Senior Analyst to help carry out all responsibilities.

Job Responsibilties

The individual will be required to:

  • Consistently and frequently publish reports on new deals and deal developments. Transactions include tender and exchange offers, LBOs and other corporate restructurings.
  • Effectively analyse M&A deals and write thoughtful research reports based on facts, opinions, market checks, due diligence, market dynamics and contacts within companies, lawyers and other industry sources.
  • Undertake deal, company and industry due diligence and perform financial modeling and valuation analyses, including: leveraged buyout, discounted cash flow, merger consequences, trading comparables and precedent transaction comparables.
  • Monitor and update a proprietary M&A database of public transactions.

Requirements

The candidate must have the following attributes:

  • Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate ideas and information effectively
  • A minimum of two years of relevant work experience, including sell-side research, corporate finance or M&A investment banking or law, and/or buy-side experience
  • Strong analytical and Excel modelling skills
  • Ability to think quickly, critically and under pressure; strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, pro-active self-starter
  • Experience following European risk arbitrage is helpful, but is not a requirement
  • Bachelor’s degree minimum

Ideally, this mid-level research analyst will have completed a two-year investment banking analyst program. The role affords the opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to many multibillion-dollar and high-profile M&A transactions and to learn the nuances of each deal.
